When you register as a seller on AWS Marketplace, the AWS account you choose becomes your **seller of record**. All payments, reporting, and communications are tied to that account, and you cannot change it later.

AWS strongly recommends creating a **new, dedicated standalone AWS account** for your Marketplace business. This avoids mixing workloads, prevents billing/tax conflicts, and keeps you flexible if you work with a reseller or MSP later.

## Scenarios and Recommendations

| **Scenario** | **What to Do** | **Why** |
| ------------------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Tax address = billing address of your management account** | - You *can* use an **existing AWS account** (e.g., production – technically possible but not ideal).
- Better: create a **new AWS organization** (not tied to production workloads).
- Best: create a **new standalone AWS account** (not tied to production workloads). | Keeps billing/tax aligned while keeping Marketplace clean. Avoid creating the seller account *inside* your existing Org if you may later move under an MSP. |
| **Tax address ≠ billing address** (e.g., billed through MSP) | **Must use a brand-new standalone AWS account** | You cannot change tax/billing details after registration. A clean account ensures your seller entity is correct. |
| **Might work with an MSP in the future** | **Always choose a new standalone account from the start** | Prevents billing/tax conflicts if your workloads are later migrated under an MSP’s Org. Future-proof setup. |

✅ **Best practice:** Always create a **new standalone AWS account (outside of existing Orgs)** for AWS Marketplace. This keeps your Marketplace business independent, compliant, and safe from future billing changes.
